Our MCP Does More Than Answer Simple Questions
Every day, another newsletter announces that a software company has added an MCP server to its platform. The demos usually show AI answering questions you would never ask. We wanted to see what happens when you give AI a real event management challenge instead. So we put Claude to the test.
Before We Dive In
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is a new open standard that lets AI assistants like Claude or ChatGPT connect directly to the tools you already use. If you’re already familiar with MCP, feel free to skip the next paragraph. If not, here’s a simple way to think about it.
Imagine you ask ChatGPT or Claude to send an email to one of your colleagues. Normally, it would reply that it doesn’t have access to your contacts or email account, so it can’t complete the task. With MCP, however, AI agents can securely access the tools you’ve authorised, find your colleague’s contact details, draft the email, and send it. All from the same conversation.
With Registration Town’s MCP connector, your AI assistant can walk right into your event: look up attendees, build and reshuffle your scientific program, assign faculty, check ticket sales, or draft your next newsletter, all working directly with your live congress data, not a copy-pasted snapshot.
So What Does That Look Like in Practice?
While other MCPs provide you with numbers that you can easily glance at on the dashboard, ours does the real job.
This is one of the challenges we gave to Claude:
Set up a new event by copying last year’s configuration. This year’s event starts on January 10, runs for 4 days instead of 3, and all ticket prices should be 10% higher than last year.
Copy the program structure, but leave out all talks and keep the program unpublished. Import last year’s faculty members and prepare an invitation email template for them.
Set up the abstract submission page and update the submission guidelines using the attached document.
Review every automated email template to ensure all event dates, deadlines, and call-to-action links point to the new event.
Finally, create a dashboard that compares this year’s registration numbers with last year’s.
And after you’ve enjoyed your morning cup of coffee, the event is ready to go live!
What usually took hours, if not days, and required thousands of clicks and meticulous reviewing can now be done simply by asking an AI agent. Instead of asking questions whose answers already exist in your platform, our MCP enables your AI assistant to work directly with your event data, perform complex tasks, and deliver real outcomes that save time and effort.
